Haley House Soup Kitchen

On any given day, the Haley House Soup Kitchen in Boston’s South End serves up to 400 meals to hungry people. The majority of our guests are individuals who are struggling with homelessness, mental illness, and addiction. But we also see families who are struggling to make ends meet, seniors who can’t afford their medication, and students who are skip meals because they can’t afford lunch.

For many of our guests, the Soup Kitchen is their only source of hot meals. Our doors open at 11:30am and we start serving lunch at noon. We usually have a line out the door by 11:45am.

Guests can come in and get a hot meal and a drink and then take their food to go or stay and eat in our dining room. We try to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the dining room – it’s a place where people can come for respite from the cold or heat outside, or from the chaos of their lives.

If you’re ever in the Boston area and are looking for a place to volunteer, I highly recommend the Haley House Soup Kitchen. They do amazing work feeding the homeless and less fortunate, and could always use an extra set of hands. I’ve volunteered there a few times and it’s always a very rewarding experience.

You really get to see the difference that you’re making in people’s lives, even if it’s just for one meal. If you have some free time, I urge you to consider giving back at the Haley House Soup Kitchen.
