Ron Kitching is a retired Canadian businessman and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of Westcoast Moulding & Millwork, a successful Vancouver-based company that manufactures and distributes interior mouldings and millwork products. Born in England in 1934, Ron Kitching immigrated to Canada with his family in 1947.

They settled in Vancouver, where he attended high school and then went on to study economics at the University of British Columbia. After graduation, he worked for a time as an accountant before launching his own business ventures. In 1968, Ron Kitching and his business partner John Norris founded Westcoast Moulding & Millwork.

The company quickly became one of the leading suppliers of interior mouldings and millwork products in Western Canada. Under Ron’s leadership, Westcoast Moulding & Millwork grew to become one of the largest companies of its kind in Canada, with over 250 employees and annual sales exceeding $50 million. After retiring from Westcoast Moulding & Millwork in 2001, Ron Kitching remained active in the business community through his involvement with various organizations and charities.

He was also a generous supporter of the arts, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Opera Company. Ron Kitching passed away on May 28, 2018 at the age of 83. He leaves behind a lasting legacy as a successful businessman and philanthropist.

How Did Ron Kitching Become Famous

Ron Kitching is a retired British racing driver who competed in Formula One, World Sportscar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He started his career in 1963 driving a Cooper T51 in Formula Junior races. In 1964 he switched to Formula Three, winning the Monaco Grand Prix F3 support race that year.

He then moved up to Formula Two for 1965 but only raced sporadically due to lack of funding. Kitching’s big break came when he was signed as a works driver by Reg Parnell Racing to drive their Lotus 33-C chassis powered by a BRM V8 engine in 1966. He scored his first world championship points with a sixth-place finish at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Kitching continued with Reg Parnell Racing in 1967, now driving a Brabham BT24 chassis powered by a Cosworth DFV engine. He achieved his best ever finish with fourth place at the Monaco Grand Prix and also finished fifth at Spa-Francorchamps. 1968 saw Kitching move to Team Lotus, again driving Lotus 49s powered by Cosworth DFVs.

He scored points with sixth place at the South African Grand Prix and fifth place at Rouen-Les-Essarts but was dropped from the team after just six races. Kitching returned to Reg Parnell Racing for 1969, now racing an Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 car powered by a V8 engine sourced from Autodelta. With this car he took another fourth place at Monaco as well as finishing fifth at Watkins Glen International Raceway

Kitching’s final season of racing was 1970 where he drove various cars including Lola T210s and McLaren M14As before finally hanging up his helmet for good mid-way through the season. After retiring from racing Ron set up RK Motorsports, an engineering company that specialised in building engines for Hillclimb cars which won numerous championships over the years.
